Hi Cfa, I was looking at the MODIS/VIIRS hotspot data today- trying to correlate this information with the NRT bushfire data being generated by AFAC agencies- https://digital.atlas.gov.au/maps/8b28109ce26b43b8968a3c9baa608f43/about
This worked OK, however do suggest that we could be further improve this capability :-)
1- hotspot detection is influenced by cloud, and so to help in hotspot interpretation (particularly from Himawari -10 min data), it would be useful to bundle the hotspot data with the satellite cloud-masking data (e.g. https://ladsweb.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/missions-and-measurements/products/CLDMSK_L2_VIIRS_SNPP ). Thus- is the lack of a hotspot cluster due to cloud masking, or has the fire gone out?
2- in the example above, the MODIS (aqua) vis data was overlaid to help with interpretation. However this layer didn't appear to load until I zoomed out a little. I then lost the location of the hotspots. In this case, navigation may be helped by having an overlay of borders, roads etc. Also (and maybe I missed this capability?), it is possible to show the lat/lon on the mouse cursor (perhaps selectable) to also help with navigation?
